Title: Method for estimating potential tree-grade distributions for northeastern forest species

Description: Generalized logistic regression was used to distribute trees into four potential tree grades for 20 northeastern species groups. The potential tree grade is defined as the tree grade based on the length and amount of clear cuttings and defects only, disregarding minimum grading diameter. The algorithms described use site index and tree diameter as the predictive variables, allowing the equations to be incorporated into individual-tree growth and yield simulators such as NE-TWIGS.

Keywords: Generalized logistic regression; NE-TWIGS; growth and yield simulators
